More than any other product, culture reflects the unity, worth and heritage of a people. The promotion of cultural sectors creates social capital, strengthens identities and creates opportunities for exchange. The New Cotton Route aims to be the link between peasants, artisans, weavers, dyers, fashion designers, designers and innovators, by establishing cultural and economic bridges and bridges between Canada and Mali, along the cotton thread that we hope will bind the two countries even more.
This crossed perspective, which the designers and fashion designers of Canada and Mali will take on the knowledge and know-how of traditional and modern textiles, will lead to co-creations based on cultural values, landmarks and experiences through creations with a subtle and contemporary style revisited.
Fashion and home decor items will be designed with cotton materials grown, dyed and woven by women. The low valuation of the textile sector in Mali results in: a deficit in wealth creation, loss of income for actors in the sector and the deterioration of the situation of women working in the field.
